[Interview] CBD Queen: the CBD sisters
CBD Queen, is the brand name for CBD stores in the South of France. Present in Cannes, Antibes and Nice, the chain offers CBD flowers, resins, oils and e-liquids. Interview with Elodie Rosano, co-founder of the brand with her sister Angélique.
Hello CBD Queen. You're a local CBD company based mainly in the Alpes-Maritimes. What prompted you to open your first store?
We were under franchise in 2018 for 1 year, a great experience that made us want to develop our own brand and have a hand in the products we sell.
Where do you source your CBD products and what makes you choose one product over another?
Our products come from Spain, Italy and Switzerland. It's mainly the quality of the taste and the amount of CBD which guides us in our choice of products. We test all our varieties before marketing them.
Do you carry products from France?
Unfortunately, we don't have any French varieties of CBD flower, but our CBD e-liquid supplier is Marie Jeanne, a French brand.
What do you expect from France's upcoming decisions on CBD regulation?
We are waiting upcoming French decisions a rate of 0.3% which would make things easier for growers. We're also waiting to be sure that we're no longer in a legal limbo over CBD flowers, as we've had several kilos seized by Customs, which represents a lot of losses, lawyers to pay and fines. We want to be properly controlled on our rates, not on the legal uncertainty surrounding the flowers.
Today, you're expanding across the department to Cannes, Antibes and Nice. Are you hoping to expand elsewhere?
We're planning to open franchises all over France, but we prefer to take the time to get to know future franchisees outside the Alpes-Maritimes. We have a huge number of requests, but we prefer to have exclusively female CBD Queen managers.
We could have opened even more stores in the Alpes-Maritimes, but we don't see the point of opening several stores in the same town or the same area as some of our competitors. We don't want our franchisees pulling at each other's heels, and prefer to have people who are happy to work with us.
This year's situation is special, with all the stop-and-go traffic due to the various lockdowns and curfews. How has this affected you?
We haven't been affected by the crisis so far, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't affect us. We've even introduced lower prices, with a selection from €3 to €5 a gram, so that those hardest hit by the situation can continue to relax with our products.
I'm never ready for confinement, and it's terrible for me to talk to customers who tell me they've lost everything. I consider myself lucky to have a business that can withstand anything at the moment. If there is to be containment, it all depends on the style of containment:
- If essential businesses remain open, we will be able to welcome customers in store.
- If there's no one left on the streets and we have to close, as we did in the very first lockdown, we'll close the shops and work with our private transport service for deliveries in the Alpes-Maritimes in less than 24 hours.
