Leafly's 11 best cannabis strains of 2022
The American site Leafly organizes an annual election for the best cannabis strains, which provides insight into trends in regulated markets. Based on its user data, the listing and rating site cannabis varieties awarded its 2022 prize to Jealousy and recognized 10 other varieties that Americans are crazy about.
Leafly's 2022 Strain of the Year: Jealousy
The website's editorial team chose Jealousy as the best cannabis strain of the year 2022 for several reasons:
- The strain climbed to the top of Leafly's internal rankings in less than 2 years.
- It is currently sold in over 1,500 dispensaries
- The clones are selling like hotcakes at 5,001 TP4T each
- She came in second this summer at the California High Times Cannabis Cup
- The quantity of strains today called Jealousy without actually being it, further reinforcing its name
A cross between Gelato #41 and Sherbert Bx1 (Sunset Sherbert x Sunset Sherbert x Animal Cookies), Jealousy continues the lineage of the Gelato. This was Berner's initial reaction when the hybrid was presented to him: «It smells like Gelato times 100.»
The 10 Best-Selling Cannabis Strains of 2022
In addition to Jealousy, Leafly selected 10 of the best-selling strains in the United States in 2022.
Ice Cream Cake
This creation by Seed Junky Genetics combines Gelato #33 and Wedding Cake, who are also on this list, for a variety that never skimps on the experience, the bag appeal or taste. She won first place at the Emerald Cup twice, in 2019 and 2021.
Blue Dream
The Blueberry and Haze have formed a sweet, fruity, and herbaceous hybrid that has been topping the charts for a few years now. True recognition for this light variety that has managed to shed bad reviews and remain a bestseller.
Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake is a sweet cannabis strain, of course, but it has a spicy aftertaste, like a wedding (hence its name!). Seed Junky remains on this list with its Triangle Kush and Animal Mints combo that made it Leafly's 2019 Strain of the Year. The third most important effect of Wedding Cake according to users is arousal. And that shouldn't be overlooked!
Gelato
Gelato consistently ranks among the most popular strains. A cross between Sherbinski's Sunset Sherbet and Cookies Fam's Thin Mint GSC, Gelato has produced thousands of crosses that win cannabis competitions everywhere, every year.
Original Glue
Back when Sour strains ruled the cannabis world, Original Glue—also known as GG#4—was the queen of the ball. It delivers a lively high with rich, tangy terpenes. The great Josey Whales and co-creator Lone Watie created Original Glue from a blend of Chem's Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel.
Pineapple Express
In sixth place, the Pineapple Express proves that people enjoy sativas for their creative effects and tart taste. G-13 Labs has combined the Big Bud and Hawaiian to create a sativa Don't be too fond of Seth Rogen..
Sour Diesel
Sour Diesel is, as its name suggests, a concentration of gasoline in a sativa shell. East Coast breeders created Sour Diesel from Chemdawg and Super Skunk to amplify its gassy heritage and add spice to the tongue, with electric green buds. It had its heyday in New York in the 90s but still holds its own against more modern rivals.
MAC
The MAC burst onto the cannabis scene with its pungent terpenes, citrus notes, and ability to knock out even the most seasoned smokers. If you're looking for relief or a night in, this elegant blend of Starfighter, Columbian, and Alien Cookies, produced by the incomparable Capulator, will do the trick.
Purple Punch
This indica-dominant strain retains the grape and Kool-Aid taste that made Purple strains famous, while providing a relaxing high that doesn't leave you couch-locked. Its two parents, Grandaddy Purple and Larry OG, also ensure a beautiful appearance, with purple buds streaked with green and frosted with trichomes. And without Purple Punch, we wouldn't have Mimosa or Wedding Crasher.
Durban Poison
The only dangerous thing about the Durban Poison Is its potency underestimated? This landrace sativa ignites neural synapses with a rich, resinous nose of black pepper and pine. Originally from the port city of Durban in South Africa, Durban Poison has won the Cannabis Cup multiple times and is one of the strains that gave rise to Thin Mints GSC.
