7 cannabis strains inspired by movies
Pop culture has often had influences on everyday life, especially when it comes to cannabis. From «Harold and Kumar hunt the burger» to «Pineapple Express», these films where weed is central to the plot have all been successful. And these films haven't just appealed to their audiences, they've also titillated the imagination of cannabis growers. Here are a few weed varieties named after classic films.
Pineapple Express
The sativa-dominant variety Pineapple Express has become a legend thanks to its namesake film, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. It's one of the best cannabis comedies around, and the strain of cannabis that shares its name is just as great. We often wonder whether the strain influenced the film's name, or vice versa. Seth Rogen claims that the film came first, and we're okay with that.
Master Jedi and Master Yoda
Star Wars fans often get together at conventions, and some even share their love of cannabis. Master Jedi, a variety indica, and the Master Yoda, a hybrid at 20% THC, which won the Cannabis Cup in 2012, are two of the many Star Wars-inspired cannabis strains.
Jack the Ripper
Watching a horror movie while consuming cannabis requires a certain kind of courage, and it was this courage that motivated the creation of the Jack the Ripper strain. This predominantly sativa has a high THC content that produces rapid effects.
Charlotte's Web
The motivations behind the creation of Charlotte's Web have little to do with the film Charlotte's Little World. But this variety was most likely named after this children's story. This popular variety with less than 1% of THC was cultivated to relieve the epileptic seizures of a young child named Charlotte Figi. This variety is highly recommended for its medicinal properties, with very few psychoactive effects.
Snow White
Snow White, the old fairy tale made popular by Disney, has graced the childhoods of many. And such is the intention behind this variety of weed: to take you on wonderful adventures, amidst a princess and her 7 dwarfs (no, no, we're not exaggerating!).
Mr Tusk and the White Walrus
If you've never seen Tusk, we recommend it. It's a rather tortured film in which the main character is gradually transformed into a walrus. During its promotional tour, the film Tusk asked a Los Angeles dispensary to temporarily rename two varieties of weed in homage to the film: a sativa «White Walrus» and an indica «Mr Tusk», canned in the film's colors.
Alice in Wonderland
This Lewis Caroll tale is notorious for its relationship with psychoactive substances. Just think about what the rabbit is smoking, and you'll see what we're talking about. While this variety won't have you seeing talking cats and weird colors, Alice in Wonderland mixes euphoria with relaxation.
We can't wait for the next Hollywood productions! Who knows, a Jason Statham or Hunger Games could be just around the corner 😉
