The Chemdawg has taken its time to make a name for itself. Behind her mysterious origins, ambiguous genetics and numerous hybrids, Chemdawg has secured a regular place in cannabis competitions.
The variety behind Sour Diesel or the’OG Kush, is known for its distinctive diesel aromas. Acrid and lively, this weed smells very strong. Legend has it that some of its buds were given to breeder Chemdog at a Grateful Dead concert. The buds contained seeds, which later became the first Chemdawg.
The power of Chemdawg has made it a valuable variety for crossbreeding. Strains include the Chemdawg 91 phenotype and the popular Sour Diesel and OG Kush hybrids.
One of the Chemdawg phenotypes is the Chem's Sister which was used to create the Gorilla Glue family.
Some seed banks like Greenhouse offer versions of «Chemdog» that are a cross between OG Kush and Sour Diesel. Others suspect Chemdawg of being a cross between a Nepalese variety and a Thai.
Chemdawg appearance, aroma and flavour
Chemdawg buds are medium-sized and look slightly different from those of hybrids or pure indica lines. Long and tapering rather than popcorn-shaped, the flowers have relatively loose, wispy leaves. Spring-green leaves are covered with sticky white trichomes, giving the buds a silvery-white appearance.
Because of their combination of loose structure and resinous texture, Chemdawg buds are particularly difficult to break by hand - users preparing flowers for joints or pipes will find it easier with a grinder. The sticky flowers are crossed by red to orange pistils. The smell of Chemdawg is reminiscent of diesel fuel (which, some believe, is the reason for the «chem» in its name). The pungent flowers also give off earthy musk and pine scents.
As long as the flowers are properly dried, this variety produces a mild smoke that tastes acidic when inhaled. On exhaling, Chemdawg smoke reveals its characteristic diesel taste, with an ammonia-like flavor that hits the roof of the mouth.
Effects of Chemdawg
The effect of Chemdawg is rapid, sometimes even before the consumer has had time to appreciate its distinctive diesel aroma. Smokers can experience a heightened sense of awareness of their surroundings. This initially disorientating head high becomes more productive, cerebral and introspective in the right configuration and setting. The Chemdawg can lend itself to exuberant conversation.
Its ability to amplify sensory experiences makes it particularly suited to creative endeavors. Many users report a palpable sense of physical relaxation - although not a «couchlock» - suggesting that Chemdawg also contains an indica component in its genes. Chemdawg's powerful cerebral effect has made it invaluable in treating certain symptoms associated with stress, anxiety and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some enthusiasts also report relief from chronic pain and migraines.
Because of its potency and mental focus, Chemdawg can trigger paranoia. Users with a high THC tolerance are advised to moderate their consumption accordingly.
Caution for medical patients, Chemdawg can develop THC levels of 15 to 20%, and offer very cerebral but heavy effects. This powerful hybrid is excellent for those seeking relief from severe pain.
The strong cerebral effects, however, can be unsettling for novice consumers.
