Sensi Seeds and Snoop Dogg launch their exclusive varieties in the U.S.
After a European launch in 2025, Sensi Seeds and Death Row Records are officially extending their collaboration to the United States, offering American hobby growers access to five exclusive cannabis strains developed in collaboration with Death Row's head grower, AK.
This project is part of the Breeding Grounds from Sensi Seeds, designed to combine recognized breeding expertise with new cultural and genetic influences. Varieties now available to American growers include B-Funk, Dough Boy, Studio Candy, Caramel Pineapple and the Cereal Killa.
For the first time, the genetics associated with Death Row will be distributed to US home growers via the Sensi Seeds US network, Snoop Dogg's SWED stores, and should be available online at trydeathrow.com.
Collaboration based on heritage and cultural influence
Founded in 1985 by Ben Dronkers, Sensi Seeds is widely regarded as one of the most influential seed banks in cannabis history, known for classic genetics such as Northern Lights, Jack Herer, Skunk #1 and Afghani #1. The company celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, reinforcing its role as a benchmark in breeding and preservation.
On the other side of the partnership is Death Row Records, a label founded in 1991 that helped define West Coast hip-hop through artists such as 2Pac, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. After years of legal wrangling and decline, the label was bought by Snoop Dogg in 2022 as part of a wider effort to rebuild its identity.
«We were like, «What the hell is he buying a bag of trouble for?»», Snoop Dogg told the Associated Press after the acquisition. «But they didn't understand what I saw; I saw my heritage in it.»
Sensi Seeds« Gio Dronkers described the partnership as much more than just a branding exercise: »This collaboration between Sensi Seeds and Death Row Records goes beyond a classic partnership: it's the coming together of two cultural pioneers who have shaped their respective disciplines through quality, authenticity and heritage."
AK, the grower behind Death Row's genetics
At the heart of the project lies AK, a West Coast grower with over 25 years' experience in cultivation and selection. He has worked in Washington State and California, and has collaborated with leading American breeders and brands.
AK defined his role at Death Row as a riposte against celebrity-launched cannabis brands, often of poor quality. «Our main goal with Death Row is to demystify celebrity cannabis,» he said. «Often, the marketing and packaging are far better than the weed itself.»
This philosophy would have shaped the selection process behind the five varieties, emphasizing distinct profiles rather than superficial differences.
«When developing these varieties, we prioritized flavor, effect and yield,» AK told High Times.
Five varieties designed for amateur growers
Unlike many celebrity-related cannabis launches that focus on finished products, this range is aimed directly at growers. Snoop Dogg clarified that the genetics had been tested overseas before being introduced to the US.
«We've been doing it the right way: refining the genetics, watching how people like them abroad, and making sure it's something I can believe in,» he told High Times. «Now it's time to bring them home...let people grow what we grow.»
Each cultivar has been designed to play a specific role in the garden, according to AK.
«Our aim was to offer five varieties, each with a clear purpose in the home grower's garden, while highlighting the rich collaboration between modern and traditional genetics,» he said.
In the range, the B-Funk should be a great success following its strong sales in Europe. The Caramel Pineapple is inspired by genetic SFV OG and Jamaican Roadkill Skunk, while the Dough Boy is positioned as a reliable variety built on classic foundations. The Studio Candy and the Cereal Killa are described as more compact options, suitable for indoor cultivation, with rather relaxing effects.
With Sensi Seeds bringing decades of breeding credibility and Death Row bringing its cultural clout, the US launch marks a new stage in the evolution of cannabis collaborations.
