Snoop Dogg launches Merry Jane, a cannabis media platform
Snoop Dogg is known not only as an artist but also as an investor in the cannabis industry, particularly in the startup Eaze. But today, Double G is making a whole new kind of entrance into the game: he’s launching his platform called Merry Jane.
Merry Jane will be a lifestyle media site focused on cannabis. Featuring video and editorial content, the site will serve as an information hub for anyone interested in cannabis, from beginners to experienced users.
Edit: We have gained access to its private beta !
Snoop made this announcement during the TechCrunch Disrupt, a technology event taking place in San Francisco from September 21 to 23. He says his platform will contain «everything there is to know» about cannabis and will serve as the world’s encyclopedia of cannabis.
The site will feature its own series, including a cooking show where viewers will learn how to cooking with cannabis, to «Deflowered,» a show that focuses on first-time experiences, featuring exclusive interviews with celebrities. Snoop also notes that the site will feature celebrities close to the project, such as Seth Rogen and Miley Cyrus.
Beyond that, Merry Jane will focus on the business and policy developments in the cannabis industry, the various legalization efforts, and the industry’s growth. This gives us something in common with Snoop Dogg !
Merry Jane will primarily be a major competitor to existing companies in the United States. For example, it will feature a search engine for cannabis strains (hello Leafly !), and a map of the dispensaries selected by Snoop and Ted Chung, his manager and business partner (hi there Weedmaps !). Eventually, health clinics will be able to create a profile on the website and upload their menus or update their digital display.
Ted Chung's business plan is pretty straightforward: attract cannabis advertisers and sell them ad space on the site. Chung plans to surpass his competitors' audience within six months.
Snoop also said that Merry Jane will give smokers a chance to «come out of the closet»: «There are a lot of people hiding in their closets, and we’re giving them the opportunity to come out and admit that they like to smoke. I’m a smoker, my name is Snoop Dogg, and I’m a stoner.».
Merry Jane will initially launch as an invitation-only beta, and will gradually open up to the public in the coming weeks.
A great announcement at a world-class event, a star of this caliber as a spokesperson, and a network of friends in the entertainment industry—we have no doubt that Merry Jane is going to be a huge hit! Stay tuned.
Bonus : This helps us better understand the video supporting the Tax-Free Weed Day in Colorado which Snoop posted on the YouTube channel Merry Jane, a brand-new channel that had only one video 7 days ago. Not as innocent as it seems! Check out the video below.
