Morocco simplifies registration of cannabis products

The Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) and the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at simplifying and harmonizing the registration procedures for cannabis-based products.

Signed in Rabat by Samir Ahid and Mohamed El Guerrouj, this agreement is based on Law No. 13-21, which governs the legal uses of cannabis in the country. It demonstrates the continued commitment of the Moroccan authorities to accelerate the development of the Moroccan cannabis industry.

Simplified procedures for operators

At the heart of this agreement is a central objective: to streamline administrative procedures. Until now, the registration of cannabis-based products could be an obstacle for operators, due to procedures deemed complex or unclear.

Thanks to this partnership, AMMPS and ANRAC aim to improve their coordination to speed up the processing of applications. Companies wishing to market cannabis-derived products should thus benefit from a clearer framework, with better-defined administrative steps.

This simplification also aims to foster the emergence of an economic ecosystem centered on the medical marijuana, which is still in its early stages in Morocco. By facilitating market access, authorities hope to encourage investment while strictly regulating practices.

The protocol also provides for the implementation of rigorous mechanisms to guarantee quality, the safety and the compliance products.

The AMMPS, as the drug regulatory authority, plays a central role in scientific and health assessments. All products intended for the market must meet strict standards aligned with international norms. Cannabis-based products, particularly those for therapeutic use, must therefore demonstrate their efficacy and safety before being marketed.

The stakes are also international. By complying with global pharmaceutical regulatory standards, Morocco intends to strengthen its credibility in the market medical marijuana for export.
