Le Beldiya+, Moroccan medical hashish now available in South Africa
The first Moroccan cannabis-based medication, Beldiya Plus°, developed by CannaFlex, was prescribed by doctors and dispensed to patients in South Africa. This news confirms Morocco's ability to meet international pharmaceutical standards while drawing on its long-standing heritage in cannabis, rooted in the Rif Mountains.
The First Prescription Across Borders
This important milestone was achieved thanks to a collaboration between CannaFlex, a company licensed by the’ANRAC (National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities), and DRA Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd, a South African pharmaceutical manufacturer.
On October 17, 2025, a South African patient received the first prescribed dose of Beldiya Plus° at Greenways Dispensary from Pretoria. The prescription was issued by the Dr. Anton Janse van Rensburg, chief physician at Cannabis Clinics, a digital health platform that facilitates patients' access to medical cannabis under the strict supervision of healthcare professionals.
Approved by the SAHPRA (South African Health Products Regulatory Authority) and supported by the’AMMPS (Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products), Beldiya Plus° meets all international standards for quality, safety, and traceability.
The product itself is precisely standardized in THC and CBD, extract from cultivated Moroccan plants according to the Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), and converted into GMP-certified laboratories in Morocco and South Africa.
Scientific rigor and Moroccan heritage
For Aziz Makhlouf, co-founder of CannaFlex, said this important milestone represents «the result of exceptional scientific rigor combined with Morocco’s rich heritage in cannabis.» He added that the collaboration with DRA Pharmaceuticals ensures «the highest standards of quality and safety to provide reliable treatments to patients around the world.».
According to Chris Hutton, CEO of DRA Pharmaceuticals, said, «Our state-of-the-art pharmaceutical laboratories and our expertise are essential to ensuring that Beldiya Plus° meets the most stringent international standards. »This partnership with CannaFlex is revolutionizing access to medical cannabis by providing patients with safe, reliable, and evidence-based treatments.”.
For Kiara Ducasse, CEO of Cannabis Clinics, this partnership «plays a crucial role in connecting patients and doctors, ensuring seamless, regulated, and efficient access to medical cannabis.» Its platform already supports patient care and data management throughout South Africa, thereby helping to integrate cannabis-based treatments into the official healthcare system.
Beyond this first historic prescription, CannaFlex and its partners plan to expand their medical portfolio, with more than 45 cannabis-based products currently under development. Their shared vision is to promote the’innovation, sustainability and patient-centered therapies while contributing to the economic revitalization in rural areas of Morocco.
This development comes less than a year after the launch by Pharma 5, another Moroccan pharmaceutical company, Pharma 5 Cannabidiol, the country’s first generic cannabis-based medication for the treatment of epilepsy. This initiative, backed by an investment of 250 million dirhams (approximately 25 million euros), was an early indication of Morocco’s intention to integrate cannabis-derived medicines within its pharmaceutical landscape.
