Bubble Hash «Made in California» - Frenchy Cannoli

It all started... About 10 years ago, with a barrette of 20 in cellophane. I remember the taste ... It wasn't crazy. Afterwards, though, I was pretty POSE ... And in front of an episode of Rocket Power!

Today, Hash is losing ground to Dutch and, above all, French weed, even though it's still smoked in the majority of France. It's no longer a secret that more and more people have their own little plantation.

If weed gets much better publicity than pot, it's mainly «thanks» to the average/poor quality that's found on a fairly regular basis.

Here's the list of delicious cutting products found in pot in recent years:

So pot, in the end, really isn't that great...

In fact, if you've ever come across this type of product - and chances are you have - you may not be a fan. Let's take a brief (very brief) look at the history of Hash for 2 minutes:

Once upon a time Since ancient times, people have been ingesting hashish in a variety of ways. From Napoleon's scientists, who prescribed it in high doses to patients in psychiatric asylums as a sedative. From the Club des Haschischins and its consumption in ancient Egypt, it has survived the ages.

Hash is now mostly smoked. Whether in a joint, a pipe, a vaporizer or in chillum, the possibilities are numerous and the reasons are many (Medical, Recreational, Spiritual).

With these few ... 3.9 million users in France, including 1.2 million regular users, it seemed interesting to show that despite its current image ...

The truth is quite different, thanks to a few enthusiasts, including one we've been following on Instagram for a while ... Frenchy Cannoli :

This Frenchman from the French Riviera is passionate about travel, adventure, exploration and history.

The adventurer Henry De Monfried and, archaeologist, military officer and diplomat T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, are his childhood heroes and certainly the source of this life filled with travel and diversity!

His travels took him to various Hash-producing countries, where he learned about different traditional practices.

He has shared the lives of farmers from North Africa to the Himalayas in India and Nepal, with the sole aim of learning more about Cannabis and its resin. The knowledge he has acquired over the years has given Frenchy Cannoli the means to develop his own techniques, inspired by traditional hash-making techniques.

After several years as a designer in Japan and Thailand, he finally settled in California.

His arrival in this state, which has legalized medical consumption since 1996 and has been a Marijuana consumer for much longer, offers a new dimension. He is now the official Hashishin of Aficionado's, the first seed bank to take a stand in favor of the development of quality resins.

This reflects a much more French tradition, the winemaker's. The aim is not simply to produce the same grapes and the same wine as the others... but also to define all the parameters such as soil, altitude and strain to get the best out of them.

In France, we're still too used to finding bad Hash, but as the market evolves and consumer demand grows, it's becoming possible to find better quality products. Frenchy Cannoli's technique is based mainly on Bubble Hash, This process extracts the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes using water and ice. This process produces far better results in terms of extraction and T.H.C. content than those generally used in Morocco, for example.

Different products for different uses

Today, it's possible to find types of weed that produce an average T.H.C. level of around 10-20%, which can be likened to the alcohol content of wine.

You can also find BHO or DHO extractions (A new process, cleaner than BHO, is coming to France from our Breaking Dabs Crew buddies) which reach levels of 90% of T.H.C. This can be compared to the alcohol your grandfather has in the back of the cupboard.

On the other hand, there are still very few products around 40-60% T.H.C. that could be compared to a Whisky or a delicious Amber Rum. If this product remains rare, it's because the market is not yet as mature as that of wine, for example.

As legalization gains ground in the USA, we're seeing the arrival of many extremely high-quality products. Frenchy Cannoli is no exception to the rule, bringing its «French Touch» to the famous Emerald Triangle.

By avoiding Henna and tire powder, we'll be all the better for it, and we'll finally be able to discover the true flavors of our favorite plant.

We asked Frenchy a few questions!

What is the origin of the term Bubble Hash?

The term Bubble Hash is relatively recent. It defines a quality of resin also known as «Fondue», which represents the resin formed by the trichromes. Bubbleman was certainly the first to use this term, but other Hash-makers dispute its truth.

Do you remember the first time you made your own Bubble Hash?

Complicated question ... If we're talking about Bubble Hash proper, the first time I made it was in the 70s. I pressed Red Libanaise before sharing it with friends.

What's your role at Aficionado?

I'm the official Hashishin of Aficionado. They have recently focused on promoting new genetics that will enhance Cannabis resin as much as flowers, while controlling these genetics through a program of breeding.

We are currently in the process of obtaining a license to produce artisanal Hashish in California.

Does aging Hashish allow it to improve like wine?

Indeed, as Hash ages, it undergoes a transformation that gives it a certain smoothness and body. It's a process very similar to that of wine.

Which country has given you the greatest knowledge of hashish?

Afghanistan for its traditions, which have provided me with most of my hashish knowledge.

India, the land of Charas (a type of Hash), opened my eyes to a whole new dimension of resin, an appreciation of Cannabis «terroir» and a certain spirituality in the consumption of this plant.

Finally, California has brought me the highest level of scientific knowledge of the plant. So it's impossible to say which country is the most important. It's more a question of evolution, which should be seen as a body of acquired knowledge.

When can we expect to see you at a European Bubble Hash Workshop?

I'll certainly be at the Spannabis 2016 with Aficionado. A European Workshop would be great, but it's complicated to organize from the other side of the planet.
