Who supplies Snoop Dogg with weed? The story of the real Nancy Botwin
Snoop Dogg is definitely the King of Cannabis on this planet. In addition to his legendary cannabis use, his smoke-filled lyrics, and his new line of cannabis, Snoop smokes the best strains out there.
If you’ve ever wondered (or not) how Snoop Dogg gets his supply, Newsweed has an answer for you. It would be too easy to say that Snoop can get whatever he wants just because he’s Snoop. The answer is much more intriguing. And it’s mainly the story of Dr. Dina, the real-life Nancy Botwin, who, in addition to taking care of Snoop Dogg, helps her patients—including many other A-list celebrities—stay in a «high» state of mind by supplying them with the best California strains.
A 20-year relationship isn't easy to build, but Dr. Dina and Snoop Dogg have become so close over the years that he no longer trusts anyone else with his private deliveries. The two met when Dr. Dina was just a teenager, and she had no idea who he was.
While she was hanging out with her friends and enjoying a beautiful summer day in 1996, Dina found herself face to face with Snoop. He was simply visiting the father of one of her friends, a well-known criminal defense attorney. Snoop was facing murder charges at the time and needed to take a break during his tense meeting to clear his head. Dina recalls:
«I thought he was just going to light a cigarette; I didn’t know. We were walking past him when one of his friends lit up a blunt. It was the first time I’d seen someone smoke a blunt, and I must have looked like, ‘Whoa, people are doing drugs right next to me.’.
I was an innocent young girl, but inside I was panicking. My friend looked at me, turned to Snoop, and said, «Dude, she’s going to tell my mom.» I told him that wasn’t the case, that his mom was the coolest ever and that even if I told her, she wouldn't take offense.
Snoop then looked at me and handed me the blunt, and I was like, «What?» and he said, «Take a hit, take a hit on that right now.» I took it from him and took a little puff—I don’t even think I inhaled—and they were all laughing, and Snoop said, «You’re part of the crew now. If you say anything about me, you’ll be in trouble too.».
They crossed paths a few more times before going their separate ways, only to eventually find each other again.
Benefactors' Association
Years later, while Dr. Dina was at the University of California, she would occasionally see Snoop driving around campus in his Lincoln Continental. She also ran into him one day in the university parking lot. She complained about having to go to theater class, and Snoop replied, «Me too.».
As the class begins, the professor asks each student to introduce themselves with a word that describes them. Snoop introduces himself as «Copious Calvin» before being given the day’s assignment and leaving the classroom. Dina then realizes that he has never been a student and that he just came along to keep her company.
Fast forward 10 years. Dr. Dina helped legalize medical cannabis in Los Angeles and opened her own dispensary. One day, a friend told her that Snoop had rented her brother’s studio for three months to work on his new album.
«He didn't believe me when I said I knew Snoop. I told him, «Tell him you know Chubby.» That was my nickname [Translator’s note: chubby]. Twenty minutes later, my friend called me in a panic because Snoop wanted to talk to me.».
During their meeting, Dina tells Snoop that she knows a doctor who can get him a recommendation card for legal medical cannabis, which will allow him to buy high-quality weed throughout California—but especially at her dispensary. That’s how Snoop received his first legal prescription.

Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dina
Snoop and Dr. Dina have been inseparable ever since and have a relationship that’s almost like that of a brother and sister. Snoop was the first to call her «Dr.» Dina, and he accidentally outée just like the real Nancy Botwin during an interview with GQ.
In addition to her clinic, her charitable organizations, her podcasts, and her consulting work, Dr. Dina continues to renew Snoop Dogg's medical license every year and to provide him with in his favorite varieties : OG Kush, and her favorite, Cat Piss, which you literally can't find anywhere. But that's what allows Dr. Dina to remain the Cannabis Queen.
