Casa Verde (Snoop Dogg) invests £4.5 million in UK medical cannabis clinic
Casa Verde Capital, the U.S. venture capital firm co-founded by Snoop Dogg, has invested £4.5 million in Mamedica, a London-based clinic specializing in cannabis-based treatments. This deal marks the largest fundraising round ever in the UK cannabis sector, reflecting both growing investor interest and the market’s rapid expansion.
Founded in 2022, Mamedica aims to establish itself as one of the leading cannabis clinics in the country. According to The Observer, it currently processes approximately 7,500 patients who suffer from chronic pain, neurological disorders, and other medical conditions. The company says it is on track to double that number by the end of the year.
Strategic investors and influential figures
Casa Verde wasn't the only investor participating in this fundraising round. Other investors included former Premier League soccer players Bobby Zamora and Mark Noble, as well as the entrepreneur and art dealer Jay Rutland. Their participation brings additional visibility to Mamedica at a time when the British market is still in a consolidation phase.
Regarding this investment, The Observer noted that «the American rapper is leading the way as private investors put their money into Mamedica.» His company, Casa Verde, has long focused on the global cannabis industry, with investments ranging from technology platforms for dispensaries to cultivation companies. In particular, it has already invested in Portugal and in Germany.
A young but rapidly growing market
The medical cannabis legalized in the UK in November 2018, following a highly publicized campaign led by parents of children with severe epilepsy. Since then, the market has continued to grow, even though access through the National Health Service remains extremely limited. Most prescriptions are issued by private clinics, which cater to patients who can pay for consultations and treatments out of pocket.
The medical cannabis industry in the United Kingdom could reach a one billion pounds sterling by the end of the year, with 100,000 patients funded, a tenfold increase compared to the early days of legalization. Mamedica’s funding round is relatively modest by venture capital standards, but for the cannabis industry, it’s a record investment.
