Mini J: a small idea for a big success!
While 2Chainz and Snoop Dogg prefer to chain together the world's biggest joints, this Colorado dispensary is listening to its market and offering an original product.
If you ever go to a dispensary in the United States or to a coffeeshop in Amsterdam, You're sure to find joints pre-rolled with a gram of weed. This flagship product is popular with new medical patients who don't know how or don't like to roll.
At €10 or €15 each, pre-rolled cigarettes are a practical solution, but some consumers may find them a lot to smoke in one go.
«We thought it would be interesting to have something portable and that's just big enough for you and a few friends,» said Andrew Salini, Director of Operations at High Country Healing, a Denver-based dispensary.
Last February, Salini was smoking with a few friends when one of them started rolling a mini-joint. The joint circulated among the group of friends, and Salini was fascinated to see that such a small joint satisfied everyone.
Salini immediately began working with his team to create pre-rolled mini-joints and sell them in their stores. In just a few weeks, they designed the Mini J, We made a joint with 0.25g of weed, designed the logo and bought little tin cans to put the joints in. At the beginning of March, the Mini J was on sale on the HCH shelves.
«At first glance, you may have your doubts. But once you try it, you soon realize that it's all you need,» confides Salini.
Regular customers were the first consumers, but within a month of going on sale, the product was very popular, with customers coming from surrounding counties just to buy their mini-joints. In October, sales of mini-joints exceeded those of normal pre-rolls. And Salini hopes the trend will continue with the ski season just around the corner.
The main advantage of Mini J Eddy is that it enables patients to regulate their consumption, especially those who experience anxiety after smoking high doses.
This concept is not new to the cannabis market. To meet consumer safety demands, the Colorado legislature has required producers of space food to package their product individually in quantities of up to 10mg of THC.
On the other hand, it's a change of direction for the cannabis industry, which in the early months of legalization was in a race for the strongest products. Today, companies in the sector are becoming more creative, with, for example, single-serve cookies like Rookie Cookie, by Growing Kitchen, or the Dixie One drink, made by Dixie Elixirs. These products have helped respond to the growing tourism industry a market estimated at 40% of recreational cannabis sales in Colorado, according to a 2014 study.
In ski towns like Silverthorne, «foreign» visitors (those from states other than Colorado) account for 90% of the total. cannabis sales. Like small portions of space food, Mini Js have been a huge hit with tourists. In addition to the small portions, consumers, many of whom cannot smoke legally in their home state or country, have the opportunity to sample several varieties of high-quality cannabis during their stay.
High Country Healing is offering for sale some fifteen cannabis varieties per day, and all available in Mini J, which sells individually for 6$. Consumers can buy 6 different varieties for 33$, with a free transport box, or 12 varieties for 60$.
«From an economic point of view, you save money by buying a smaller product, can taste more varieties and don't have to smoke it in batches,» says Salini. «Overall, it's a better experience. Are you convinced?
