Where to celebrate 420 in France in 2017?
As you probably already know, next Thursday will be April 20—or 4/20, as it’s known in English—the World Cannabis Users' Day, in reference to an old urban legend. This day is generally synonymous with a huge celebration of cannabis use and gatherings at 4:20 p.m. to smoke as many joints as possible in a massive crowd. So where can you celebrate 420 in France in 2017?
The answer may surprise some people: nowhere.
While London, Berlin, Dublin, and Barcelona all host official, public gatherings every year, Paris does not host any event worthy of the name. The reason is likely that French law still punishes any cannabis user with up to one year in prison and/or a fine of 3,750 euros. To avoid this while still complying with the law, we therefore offer two alternatives:
- the World Cannabis March, which will take place on April 29, between the two rounds of the presidential election. For anyone who’d like to unwind and come out to call for changes to France’s cannabis laws (or just listen to some great music), this will be a great opportunity. The march starts at 2 p.m. at Bastille.
- The OG 420 Black-Out party in Paris on April 20 at Les Frigos, featuring a tasting of’OG Krunch, street art, rap, and other steaming hot dishes (but legal ones—we know what you're thinking 😉 ). More info here.
So be sure to come to these two events—we'll be there!
