E. Macron in the 2nd round: «on the march» for cannabis law reform
Edito. Emmanuel Macron has thus qualified for the second round of the presidential election. He will be the only one of the two remaining candidates whose platform includes plans to reform the current cannabis law, with ever-changing views. Of course, that is not reason enough to vote for him if that was not your intention to begin with. The democratic challenge is a different matter, but we will leave that up to each of you, so we can return to the topic at hand and set aside our usual reserve.
There is now virtually universal agreement on this, as demonstrated by the numerous supporters of the ECHO initiative, Whether it’s the appeal by 150 residents of Marseille or the presence of three candidates advocating for cannabis law reform: the current crackdown on cannabis isn’t working. It does not prevent French people, young and old, from using cannabis; it fails to curb the black market for cannabis; it does not contribute to prevention efforts regarding a potentially dangerous substance, yet it denies sick people the right to self-medicate. And so on, and so on, and so on.
Emmanuel Macron’s presence in the second round is an opportunity to remind everyone of all this. And also that criminalizing such acts is far from an ideal solution. We’ll only have one chance to do this in Paris before the second round: march together on Saturday, April 29, for the World Cannabis March. Whether you’re pro-legalization or pro-reform, a user or a non-user, an activist or just a partygoer, a united front and collective action could be the key to (finally) changing the current status quo.
This march should be as much a celebration as it is a joyful protest. We’ve got something big in store for you this year: we’ll have our own float (with a DJ), and we’ve got plenty of surprises lined up for you (really). For the more shy among you—or for any reason, really—Cannabis Sans Frontières has made available a Anonymous Ganja mask.
So all that’s left is to invite you to join us at 2 p.m. at Place de la Bastille next Saturday, with your best signs and your biggest smiles! Let’s make it a great celebration!
