Despite California's legalization of cannabis, Coachella will still ban it in 2018
Although the’California legalized cannabis on January 1, 2018, The organizers of Coachella, one of the world's biggest festivals, still refuse to allow cannabis consumption on site, even though 4/20 falls on the second weekend of the event.
The website stipulates clearly «Sorry bro. Cannabis or cannabis products are not allowed inside the Coachella festival. Even in 2018 and beyond.»
In fact, Coachella has always prohibited the consumption of cannabis around the festival's stages. Sick people with a medical prescription for cannabis were not allowed to bring it either. The most widely cited reason is that the city of Indio, which hosts the festival, has chosen not to allow cannabis businesses. To calm relations with the neighborhood, the organizers chose not to go against this decision and to maintain the ban on cannabis.
The festival has «amnesty boxes» at the entrance to the event, for those who may have forgotten to empty their pockets before entering the Coachella gates.
In the event of infringement inside the event, offenders may be fined 100$.
We can therefore assume that Coachella will once again be devoid of all cannabis, whether in the form of flowers, wax, vaporizers, space cakes... or your name is Rihanna.
Last year, companies such as Weedmaps had set up a veritable weed oasis 6 miles from the festival, allowing cannabis enthusiasts to relax at a distance from the festival.
