Hempflax wins «Excellence in business» award»
Hempflax recently won the ’Excellence in Business« award in Romania. This company, specializing in hemp cultivation, invested nearly 5 million euros in Romania to make its business flourish.
Hempflax is a Dutch hemp producer. While the hemp agricultural sector was falling apart during the 20th century, the Dutch decided to revive this activity in 1993. Ben Dronkers, the company's founder, then leaves with only 140 hectares of arable land.
Hempflax, now the national No. 1 in hemp production, is looking for new agricultural land. Once a target is chosen, 5 million euros are invested in Romania during October 2015. The Romania was chosen For its cultural history with hemp, several thousand hectares were cultivated by hand during the 20th century. The company was able to take advantage of local know-how combined with cheap labor.
In order to improve yield and increase production, the Dutch management also established a factory to create its finished products.
Hempflax Romania's General Manager, Oana Suciu, states, «We want to see Romania return to the top of the hemp market. Today we use the fibers for the automotive industry and the stalks for green housing.» Production, which currently covers 2000 hectares, will expand to 5000 hectares over the year.
The hemp has been cultivated for a long time for its multiple uses. From cat litter, paper, to insulation materials (and even a Airplanethe hemp plant offers a multitude of possible transformations and uses. As long as its THC content is below the rate set by the host country, hemp can be legally cultivated in all European countries.
