The cannabis industry looks to Alaska with envy
L’Alaska to be the next U.S. state to sell recreational cannabis, and the cannabis industry is gearing up for it, with great anticipation.
L’Alaska Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office has issued the first licenses for cannabis producers and is testing the facilities this month. The first vendor licenses will be issued in September.
In anticipation of the opening of this market, the cannabis industry will gather at the The Last Frontier for CannaCon Alaska, the state's largest business fair. Billed as the place where «the cannabis industry does business», CannaCon will take place over two days in Anchorage, on September 9 and 10.
Bringing together the producers, sellers and manufacturers of the cannabic market around the same table, CannaCon will feature a number of industry experts sharing their knowledge.
Running a cannabis business means overcoming challenges that don't exist in other industries. Alaska can look to the examples of American states that have already legalized recreational cannabis to learn from their mistakes, and start a recreational market with as few roadblocks as possible.
CannaCon conferences also help share best practices. These conferences began in 2014, in Washington state. This gathering of cannabis industry professionals shares both the hopes and potential opportunities of a huge market, while making future stakeholders in the field realize that cannabis legalization comes with a hefty dose of paperwork and bureaucracy to hope to work from one's passion.
