«Wiz Khalifa's »See You Again" is now the most viewed video on YouTube
A poker coup for Wiz Khalifa! The famous West Coast stoner has just surpassed 2.9 billion views with his «See You Again» video, thus dethroning Gangnam Style by Korean singer PSY, which had been the most viewed video on YouTube since 2012.
In April 2015, the rapper released the single See You Again. Accompanied by pianist Charlie Puth, the film's soundtrack Fast and Furious 7ce takes this opportunity to pay tribute to Paul Walker, actor and friend of the artist, who died too soon.
The clip reached one billion views in just six months. Since then, the American rapper's clip has generated an average of 3 million views a day.
The song was composed by singer Charlie Puth several years before the film's release, after he lost his best friend in a car accident. A project that remained forgotten until Charlie Puth proposed it to Universal Music at the time of the announcement of the death of Paul Walker, who also died tragically in a car accident.
Approaching 3 billion views
The number of views on the clip (currently at 2,903,465,319) equals a total of 21,759 years.
Each YouTube view generates 0.001 $ for the rights holders. This means that Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth could have pocketed up to 2.9 million dollars, or more than 2.5 million euros.
On the other hand, Despacito performed by Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi, a song that is destined to be a summer hit, has already racked up 2.5 billion views in just 5 months. It's a dangerous combination, and one that risks See You Again by the end of the year, since Despacito is viewed more than 25 million times a day.
