Inna de Yard, the reggae collective straight from Jamaica
Attention reggae fans! On the occasion of the’Exposition «Jamaica, Jamaica! From Marley to the deejays» Right now at the Philharmonie de Paris, we present the reggae group Inna de Yard, acoustic reggae straight from Jamaica.
The reggae touch of the year 2017
Inna de Yard is a collective born from several singers whose project was initiated in the early 2000s.
It all began thanks to the label dedicated to Jamaican reggae, Makasound. The group's concept was to bring microphones into the gardens of Jamaican musicians, notably guitarist Earl Chinna Smith. The idea: capture melodies and inspirations directly from the source in the country of the deceased. Bob Marley. But also to go beyond music and make it a state of mind. Simplicity, acoustic music, and spirituality are the watchwords of the collective Inna de Yard.
Makasound disappeared in 2011, replaced by the label Chapter Two. The collective has recorded a new album titled «The Soul Of Jamaica», released on March 10th. International Jamaican icons are featured on this album, such as Ken Boothe and Cedric «Congos» Myton. Reggae specialists less known in France, like Lloyd Parks and the trio The Viceroys, as well as young acoustic musicians from Kingston such as Kush McAnuff, Derajah, and Steve Newland, also make an appearance on the album. Live, the musical influences oscillate between reggae, funk, but also gospel, ska, and more.
The Inna De Yard collective filled the Philharmonie de Paris during a concert on April 22, 2017. This adventure is far from over for the Kingston collective, with many other dates scheduled for this summer. If you didn't have the chance to see them, don't panic! They will be present at the following events:
- July 9th at the Terre du Son festival (in Monts near Tours)
