IACM reminds us that cannabis is no cure for coronavirus
Despite constant calls to seek information from official sources and not overreact to seemingly miraculous treatments, confinement exacerbates the virality of information, whether true or not.
Against this backdrop, the International Association for Cannabinoids in Medicine (IACM), headed by Drs. Franjo Grotenhermen, reminded us in its monthly newsletter that cannabis is no cure for coronavirus.
«Several laboratory studies suggest that cannabinoids may have antiviral and antibacterial effects. We have reported on this several times in the IACM Bulletin.
However, there is no evidence that individual cannabinoids - such as CBD, the CBG or the THC - or cannabis-based preparations protect against infection by the SARS-CoV2 virus, or could be used to treat Covid-19, the disease produced by this virus.
Furthermore, there is no evidence that cannabinoid use increases the risk of viral infection.»
