Study: CBDa and CBGa prevent Covid infection

A new study adds further confirmation to the effect of cannabis on the Covid. In a laboratory study published in the Journal of Nature Products, researchers from’Oregon State University have tested the potential of CBDa and CBGa, the acidic versions of CBD and CBG, to combat coronavirus.

These two active ingredients found in hemp and cannabis prevented the virus that causes Covid-19 from entering healthy human cells, according to the study, by binding to spike proteins (proteins spike) present on the virus and blocking a step the pathogen uses to infect people.

The researchers tested the effect of the compounds against alpha and beta variants of the virus in the laboratory. The study did not involve administering the supplements to individuals or comparing infection rates in those using the compounds and those not.

«These compounds can be taken orally and have a long history of safe use in humans,» said Richard van Breemen, researcher at the Global Hemp Innovation Center from Oregon. «They have the potential to prevent as well as treat SARS-CoV-2 infection,» he added. in a press release.

Previous studies have also highlighted the contribution of THC to treat fatal complications of COVID-19 or the CBD on Covid-generated inflammation.
