United States: cannabis beer approved for sale
We regularly inform you of the release of «cannabis» products, such as the vodka, absinthe or the Nutella. Often, these products only have the taste, not the properties. But that's not the case with this beer from Colorado, which contains CBD (but no THC).
IPA General Washington's Secret Stash has just received its marketing authorization for all 50 US states. «Cannabinoids are a miracle ingredient, and I thought it would be a responsible choice to put them in beer,» explains the brewery's co-owner. Dad and Dudes, Mason Hembree. «They are antioxidants and neuroprotectants that have multiple health benefits« .
Dad and Dudes had already been distributing CBD-infused beer for over a year, under the name Cannabeer, in Colorado, where cannabis is legal. At the same time, they were able to work with the federal government to obtain authorization to sell outside the state. The beer had to undergo a battery of tests on its ingredients, recipe and manufacturing method. But now that they've got the green light, all states will be able to enjoy this fortified beer.
«We've found the right time to include CBD in the brewing process,» says Hembree. «If you add it too early, it disappears by sticking to the yeast». Since the manufacturing patent is approved, Dad and Dudes owns the rights to the perfect combination of hops and cannabis. Each pint of beer contains around 4mg of cannabinoids.
For Hembree, this new beer is more than just a new product. healthy. It's also a political manifesto. «Cannabis should be completely removed from illegal substances,» he says. «Even hemp isn't legal at the federal level. It's just stupid.
But that doesn't mean they didn't have fun with the project. Inspiration for the name, General Washington's Secret Stash, comes from a classic stoner film Dazed and Confused (Génération Rebelle in French). Inspired by Ron Slater's character's monologue about George Washington's greatest achievements, Hembree wanted to use the name of his beer to echo Washington's reputation for championing hemp, growing it on his Virginia farm and, for some, even smoking cannabis. «He was a rebel leader, and this beer is a rebel idea,» says Hembree.
With its tried-and-tested manufacturing method and upcoming market launch, Dad and Dudes is looking to develop its beers in the CBD. In October, during the festival Great American Beer several cannabis-infused beers, including an IPA, a double IPA and a cream ale.
