Parkinson's patient shows how cannabis calms his tremors
A man suffering from the early onset of Parkinson's disease filmed himself to show the considerable effects of therapeutic cannabis on his disease.
Ian Frizell, 55, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2011, but has been suffering from progressively worsening symptoms since 1995.
He decided to film himself to show the huge difference a small amount of medical cannabis makes to his tremors.
In the video, Ian explains that he underwent deep brain stimulation surgery this year, with the transplant of a medical implant that helps him mask Parkinson's symptoms. He explains that for the purposes of the video, he turned off his electrode box to show the severity of his tremors.
«What you see are my tremors due to Parkinson's without any treatment,» he says. «I can't tolerate the drugs prescribed for Parkinson's disease. They really hurt.
He then says he's going to self-treat with cannabis, and film himself again after 20-30 minutes to show the difference. When Ian reappears on screen, he's completely under control. His tremors have become imperceptible.
«It's been 20 minutes now since I treated myself with about 30mg of marijuana, which is just a little pinch, taken with a vaporizer,» he tells the camera. «And you can see that my tremors have calmed down significantly. In fact, they're almost under control».
Ian made this video following a call from British MPs in favour of legalizing medical cannabis in the UK, including Paul Flynn, leader of the House of Commons. The group's representative, Molly Meacher, called the refusal to recognize the therapeutic value of cannabis 'irrational».
«The conclusions of our research and verification of evidence from around the world are clear: cannabis works as a medicine for many medical conditions.».
The MPs' report was compiled by neurologist Prof. Mike Barnes, who testifies that cannabis can help alleviate symptoms of chronic pain, nausea or vomiting, particularly for people undergoing chemotherapy.
