The best cannabis strains for sleep and insomnia
You’re tired, but you can’t fall asleep. You toss and turn in bed until you’ve rolled from head to toe. But you still can’t fall asleep. The next day, you wake up tired and lethargic. For people living in a country where medical or recreational cannabis is legal, cannabis has proven to be effectiveness as a sleep aid. But finding the right variety is essential.
Before we reveal our selection of 5 particularly sleep-inducing cannabis strains, here are a few tips:
- Indica strains tend to be more effective at treating insomnia. Sativa strains, on the other hand, can tend to energize the user, making it harder to fall asleep. The difference in effects between the two strains could be explained by their different cannabinoid compositions.
- The edibles can help you stay asleep longer. Inhaling produces effects more quickly, but “space food” lasts longer.
- «Old» cannabis has a stronger sedative effect than fresh flowers. Aged cannabis does indeed contain more cannabinol (CBN), which has sedative properties.
- Go easy on strains with high THC content. A small dose of these can help you fall asleep, but large doses will have the opposite effect. You should also consider cannabis strains containing CBD.
Everyone reacts differently to each variety. So it’s also a matter of finding the variety that works best for you. The five varieties we’ve chosen were based on consumer experiences with Leafly.
