[VIDEO] F1 Hybrids explained: the exclusive interview with RQS
Present at MJBizCon In Las Vegas, at the largest cannabis trade show in the United States, Newsweed met with Maxence, a representative of Royal Queen Seeds (RQS), for an interview on a topic that is attracting increasing interest: F1 Hybrids.
Established in the United States for the past three to four years, the Dutch seed bank continues to grow in a highly competitive market. But beyond its international expansion, RQS is now focusing on a new generation of genetics: F1 varieties.
Well known in traditional agriculture, particularly for tomatoes, F1 hybrids are based on the principle of heterosis, or hybrid vigor. In this interview, Maxence explains in simple terms what an F1 hybrid means in the context of cannabis and how it differs from a traditional autoflowering strain. The goal: to offer greater uniformity, stability, and performance.
We also discuss a striking statistic cited by RQS: a professional grower reportedly achieved yields of up to 2 kg of flowers per square meter thanks to Hybrid F1s. Marketing hype or a genuine genetic breakthrough? The interview examines the factors that could make such yields possible, as well as the research and breeding methods behind these new varieties.
Another key point: the upcoming arrival of photoperiod F1 strains. Following the advent of autoflowers, could this development permanently transform the genetic landscape of cannabis? Are we entering a new era dominated by F1 hybrids?
Finally, the discussion turns to the future: how will cannabis genetics evolve over the next five years, and will French patients one day be able to benefit from these innovations?
An in-depth interview to understand the scientific, economic, and strategic implications of F1 Hybrids.
