European Parliament: Environment Committee backs authorization of medical cannabis
As revealed last August, the The European Parliament is currently examining the issue of medical cannabis within the Committee on the Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety. The committee has issued a draft resolution on medical cannabis that hints at the possibility of European legislation on the therapeutic use of cannabis.
The first phase of the resolution’s adoption took place yesterday in the Commission, and the motion was adopted by a large majority: 54 in favor, 1 against, and 3 abstentions.
Our Environment Committee voted, by a large majority (54 in favor, 1 against, 3 abstentions), in favor of authorizing the #cannabis for medicinal use.
A plenary vote is scheduled for December 11. @TheProgressives https://t.co/ScYgdG7lCr— Eric Andrieu (@EricAndrieuEU) October 1, 2018
The next vote will take place on December 11 during the plenary session. The committee will present the results of its work and put its resolution to a vote by all Members of the European Parliament.
If the resolution were adopted, Europe would establish a legislative framework for regulating medical cannabis. This framework would apply to member states without necessarily being binding. For details on the proposed text, you can Read our previous analysis.
