Czech Health Ministry proposes banning seven new synthetic cannabinoids
The Czech Ministry of Health is taking steps to tackle the growing consumption of synthetic cannabinoids by proposing to ban seven additional psychoactive substances.
In response to the challenges posed by synthetic cannabinoids, Czech authorities are aiming to ban substances such as HHCP, HHCH, HHCB, HHC-C8, THCH, THCB, and THC-C8 because of the potential health problems associated with their consumption.
Previously, the the Czech government had banned certain cannabinoids such as HHC, HHC-O and THCP after children were hospitalized for consuming these substances in candy. However, new variants have since appeared on the market, prompting the government to take further regulatory action.
The Ministry of Health also warns against risks associated with acetate spraying liquids at high temperatures, which can produce carcinogenic ketenes.
While these measures are intended to address immediate concerns, critics argue that a quick ban may not effectively solve the problem. They stress the need for broader legislative reforms to target irresponsible manufacturers and comprehensively regulate psychoactive substances. They call for stronger legislation that establishes clear rules for the marketing of similar substances in the future.
Jan Martin Paďouk, of CannaFamily, believes that with Expats.cz that a regulated adult-use cannabis market could be a more effective long-term solution. However, theCannabis equalization stagnates among Czech politicians. Legislators have until January 2025 to agree on a framework for new legislation on mood-altering substances, which would mark the end of the current ban.
