How many people in the world use cannabis?
Cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the world. But how many people use it?
The United Nations has published a new report on drug use in the world, which counts 192 million cannabis users, an increase of 10 million on the same report from the previous year. The report also notes that cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in teenagers, which is true of all age groups in any case.
The second most consumed illegal drug is opiates, with 34 million consumed.
The statistics collected by the United Nations are based on the year 2016, before new States like California do not legalize. Depending on how the data is collected, whether on a declarative basis or according to the quantities legally sold, the figures can vary.
In last year's report, the UN acknowledged that their figures could be underestimated, and that the true figure could be closer to 238 million.
To sum up, there are at least 192 million cannabis users in the world.
