An Advent calendar full of weed
Dreaming of a green Christmas? A Vancouver-based company may have something for you: an Advent calendar with cannabis in it.
The company Coast to Coast Medicinals has taken inspiration from the alcoholic version of Advent calendars to create its own, containing 24 days of’edibles, or flowers, or a combination of both.
«Enjoy this adult version of the classic Advent calendar, filled with cannabis products,» their website reads.
The calendar is priced between 200 and 230$. And that's where the bad news comes in: the calendar is only available in Canada, and has been so successful that sales are now being put on hold to satisfy all the customers who have already placed orders.
«We never thought the interest would be so great,» said Lorilee Fedler, owner of the dispensary. Coast to Coast Medicinals. «Grandmothers called and asked to buy some for their daughters, children and grandchildren.»
The calendars are delivered by Canada Post, despite the fact that cannabis is not yet legal in Canada.
The CtCM company tries to ensure by email that all customers are over 19, without really being able to verify the reality of the ID presented.
«The reason I feel comfortable doing this is because Vancouver is a little cooler in this area,» explains Lorilee Fedler. «People sell edibles down the street, and nobody does anything about it.»
Vancouver police have stated that they are unlikely to act against cannabis calendars, in part due to the lack of police resources to allocate to the subject.
«We're in the midst of an opioid crisis, so are you looking for someone to do their little Advent calendar or Fentanyl business?» explained Rebecca Jesseman, Senior Policy Advisor for the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse.
