What is an «electronic joint»?

To run a front-page story in a national daily newspaper, you have to be in control of it. Le Parisien has shown us that this is not the case. For the sake of brevity or simplicity, everyone has adopted the term «electronic joint» to refer to e-cigarettes containing CBD e-liquid. It would therefore be helpful to understand what an «electronic joint» really is.

Is that really a joint?

Let's get right to the point. A joint is made of tobacco and cannabis, most often in the form of resin (shit) or dried weed (the famous weed, pot, and other ganja…) some of which contain THC.

Given this, it’s hard to understand the comparison being drawn with a CBD-containing e-liquid. Neither the method of administration (no combustion with e-cigarettes), nor the product, nor the effects are comparable. The parallel with cannabis is clear, but by that logic, sweaters are also made from hemp, as are roads, insulation, and parts of the Bugatti Veyron… Should we then start talking about “car joints,” “insulation joints,” and “clothing joints”?

Are there such things as electronic joints?

At the risk of making the front page of *Le Parisien* again with products they’ve never heard of, yes, one could argue that “electronic joints” do exist. It’s worth noting here that this term doesn’t exist in the language of Shakespeare, the foremost authority on smoking terminology.

First of all, this is not an E-njoint—the image of which has been used to illustrate numerous articles about CBD (a search for «electronic joint» on Google Images returns only images of E-njoints, which likely explains this). E-joints resemble a conical joint in appearance but contain neither THC, CBD, nor cannabis of any kind.

On the other hand, there are «vaporizers» and other e-liquids loaded with THC, which are therefore illegal in France. These are probably the closest thing to an electronic joint, with e-liquids or waxes containing 50–60 and up to 90% of THC. These figures will immediately alarm the French media, but in reality reflect a very different pattern of use compared to our traditional “blue-white-red” joints.

For example, the best-known brands are undoubtedly the Pax Era and FlavRx, available only to consumers located in a country or U.S. state where cannabis is legal.

We could also consider the vaporizers, for concentrates or dried herbs, but their names already exist 🙂

How should we talk about CBD e-liquid?

Why not use the term CBD e-cigarette to refer to e-cigarettes with CBD e-liquid? It’s simple and describes exactly what they are.
