California: cannabis-infused alcohol-free wine goes on sale in January
When it comes to’edibles, the only limit is the imagination: CBD-infused hemp milk, pizzas, toothpicks… anything is possible.
Cannabis-infused alcoholic beverages aren't really anything new, by the way. We've already talked about wines and others beers, but either they had no psychoactive effects, or the combination of THC and alcohol had to be used with caution.
That’s about to change, though, with the release of the first alcohol-free wine infused with cannabis.
The California-based brand Rebel Coast Winery will begin selling a cannabis-infused Sauvignon Blanc in January 2018, when the recreational cannabis market launches in California.
Each bottle contains 16 mg of THC, which is enough for 4 glasses per bottle—the equivalent of one and a half joints in total. In other words, the effect will be fairly mild.
«Our goal isn't to kill you after a few drinks,» explains Rebel Coast on its website. «The goal is for you to be playful and naked with someone. We hope to replicate the experience you have with wine; a few glasses usually transport people to a wonderful place.».
It would take about 15 minutes for a glass to take effect. And since there’s no alcohol, there’s no horrible hangover the next day.
Rebel Coast uses grapes from Sonoma County and ferments them just like any other wine. After the alcohol is removed, each bottle is infused with THC and terpenes. The result would be a delicate blend of wine and citrus aromas.
You'll need to shell out 59.99$ to treat yourself to a bottle, and you must be over 21. Californians can already pre-order this wine. online. It is also expected to be distributed to 500 health clinics across the state.
For 2018, a rosé and a sparkling wine are in the works, as well as a line of wines with CBD.
