Wedding idea: replace alcohol with cannabis

Instead of the traditional «reception,» a newlywed couple from Oregon, in the United States, opted for a «joint reception» at their wedding. «We were really surprised by how well it went over,» said the groom, John Elledge. «I still get several text messages a day from guests telling me how much they enjoyed the »cannabar.’”.

In Oregon, where cannabis is legal, This type of event is perfectly legal on private property, as long as no alcohol is served there. «We made sure everything was legal,» confirms John Elledge. «We know the limit is 8 ounces (225 g), and we only made small quantities of 13 different varieties available, with a budtender »to monitor consumption.".

It was the first time that the agency organizing the wedding responded to this type of request. Her spokesperson insists that everything had been planned to ensure the event went off without a hitch. Transportation had been arranged. The couple had personally selected the products and hired the budtender for the tent where guests could get refreshments.

John Elledge, who is a cannabis grower himself, seems thrilled to be the first to offer a «cannabar» at a wedding. “We even had an 81-year-old who hadn’t smoked weed since the ’60s come into our tent. Although skeptical at first, she ended up loving the place.”.
