The strongest cannabis strains of 2018
The breeding and the culture sinsemilla have driven the maximization of THC levels, a practice encouraged by the rewards of Cannabis Cups and the expectations of the legal recreational cannabis industry. While the THC levels of original strains were well below 10%, crossbreeding and hybridization have set the current standard between 15% and 25%, with some strains blithely exceeding 30%, like these the world's strongest weeds.
The end of the year is upon us. So it's time for the ranking of the strongest cannabis strains of 2018, a non-exhaustive and very personal list.
5. Strawberry Banana
This predominantly Indica hybrid (70%) is a cross between Crocket's Banana Kush and Strawberry Bubblegum bred by Serious Seeds. A version of this variety grown by Greenwolf LA & Green Country Rebellion has reached a THC level of 31.62%, but the average THC level is around 26%. It's known for its sweet, exotic-fruit taste and banana scent. It provides a feeling of relaxation, first cerebral, then physical, and is used as a quality remedy for pain, depression, post-traumatic syndromes and insomnia.
4. White Tahoe Cookies
We owe this variety to Kush4Breakfast which generously crossed The White, Girl Scout Cookies and Tahoe OG varieties, hence the name White Tahoe Cookies. Its THC content is around 27%. It's an Indica-dominant hybrid (70%) with an almost immediate effect that first makes you feel euphoric and extremely creative, then quietly transforms into a sedative effect lasting several hours.
3. Irish Cream
This variety was developed by Mighty Irish Seeds by crossing Real McCoy with Cookies & Cream. Its THC content reaches 27% in most cases. Make no mistake about it, it doesn't taste like Bailey's, but like fresh grass and pine. It's a powerful variety with strong medical potential for treating anxiety, depression, stress and chronic pain. It makes you feel happy, relaxed and sociable, but can quickly become sedative and is best used at night.
2. Chemdawg
Until now, this weed held the record for the variety with the highest THC concentration. It was presented at the Cannabis Cup by Next Harvest with a THC content of 32.13%. Its genetic origin is a mystery, but some believe it comes from a cross between Thai and Nepalese sativa varieties. It is an Indica-dominant hybrid with a very pronounced taste and smell. It has been used to create Sour Diesel, a popular variety found in any Amsterdam coffeeshop. It provides an intense, pleasant cerebral effect that is relaxing and mood-enhancing. It is also reputed to stimulate creativity.
1. The Godfather OG
According to High Times, Godfather OG is the most potent weed available today. It won the Best Indica award at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2013. This Indica-dominant hybrid is grown by California Herbal Remedies (CHR) by crossing Cherry Pie, OG Kush and Granddaddy Purps varieties. Its THC content can reach 34%. It produces an intense cerebral euphoric effect, accompanied by a physical effect of total relaxation. A journey.
NB: The industry's tendency to maximize THC levels can be to the detriment of the plant's biodiversity. A recent study has shown that by concentrating on THC production, the plant minimizes the production of other cannabinoids in its molecular development, including CBD, which is thought to counterbalance the harmful effects (notably psychotic) of THC.
