THC sublingual strips promise a 15-minute effect
As the legal cannabis market expands, the seal looks increasingly old-fashioned. It has to be said that many competitors make it possible to do without its noxious smoke: it can be eaten, vaporized or even drunk. A Californian company has just launched a new way of consuming cannabis: in the form of small strips that dissolve under the tongue.
Discreet and efficient
The strip dissolves in 30 to 40 seconds, and the effect appears after 15 minutes, much faster than the edibles. This discreet and effective method is aimed at consumers who don't want to be perceived as such, whether to avoid the stigmas and stereotypes still associated with it, or to avoid smoking in public and in front of children. It's also an alternative for people with health problems for whom smoking or eating cannabis can be dangerous.
In this new product, the THC dissolved by the mucous membrane in the mouth goes directly into the bloodstream. According to Sierra Lewis, OLO's VP of product development, the discreet nature of sublingual strips has made them a popular product with baby boomers and young entrepreneurs. More broadly, people «who want to enjoy cannabis in an innovative format (...) and want wellness without the hassle».
A variety of effects
The OLO team came to the conclusion that limiting the effects of cannabis to Indica and Sativa strains was extremely simplistic. Their ambition was to free themselves from the classification into varieties. They therefore adopted a more scientific approach, looking directly at the effect of cannabinoids and terpenes on the body. endocannabinoid system. Their team includes biochemists, neuroscientists, psychologists and cannabis experts.
Together, they have identified certain psycho-physiological effects of cannabis, such as relaxation, inspiration, heightened sensations, creativity and concentration, to offer consumers a wider range of experiences. The bands thus fall into four categories, depending on the effect sought: to be concentrated, active, social or to relax. chill. Each strip has a different ratio of cannabinoids and terpenes to target the desired effect for a functional high. Doses are either 5mg or 10mg THC per strip.
Trade and production
Production is handled by licensed Californian farms working without pesticides. The plants are then processed in partner laboratories using a CO2 extraction method. Oils containing cannabinoids and terpenes are distilled from the plant and blended according to the company's formulas. These oils are then blended with natural ingredients to create the strips, which are guaranteed vegan, gluten-free, colorant- and additive-free.
OLO products are tested three times by independent laboratories. The purity and quality of the flowers and oils are also tested, and the team ensures compliance with international food safety standards. Production is entirely Californian, and the federal ban currently prevents any exports. The product is therefore only available in California in state dispensaries.
