Will Aphria be launching a cannabis-infused tea?
A photo posted and then removed from Instagram, a few interviews, some corporate tie-ins… That’s all it took for internet users to suspect that Aphria, one of Canada’s leading cannabis producers, was taking an interest in tea. Could it be that herbal teas are finally going to help people truly «relax»?
Scavenger Hunt on Reddit
The original Redditor from the thread warned: Conspiracy Theory Ahead, to understand a theory that's a bit far-fetched.
It all started with this image posted on Instagram. Solei is Aphria’s recreational cannabis brand, designed for «modern consumers»—primarily women. Solei also had a beautiful booth at TIFF (the Toronto International Film Festival). On Instagram, you’ll notice the small azure-blue business card from David’s Tea, a Quebec-based tea company.
This innocuous image had, however, disappeared from Solei's Instagram, as shown in these two screenshots, but has since reappeared.
Other signs, this time on the economic front:
- David's Tea has just announced that its tea will be sold in Loblaws stores, who are looking for themselves to sell cannabis at the retail level
- David's Tea has just hired a new director, Anne Darche, who previously worked at 48 North Cannabis
- Aphria is said to have recorded The domain name soleiteas.com is hosted by GoDaddy
- Vic Neufeld, Aphria's CEO, has mentioned David's Tea by name several times in his interviews
Is that enough to make it a serious matter? Not yet. But Redditors are keeping a close eye on things! In fact, there had already been mention of a potential merger in a thread early August.
