Welcome to the laser bang!
Cannabis and technology often go hand in hand. Just as much as the Consumers can be very creative for smoking on a budget (as evidenced by the series Smokeables from Vice (which will show you how to make a bong out of a watermelon or a potato), but when they have the resources, it results in some totally crazy creations, like this bong that works with a laser.
You also need to be able to afford it, since this limited-edition item costs a modest $2 400 (2,100€), and only 45 copies will be sold.
Developed by Silicon Cali, this high-tech bong uses a 445-nanometer laser to vaporize weed. That’s 400 times more powerful than the average laser. The company’s founder, Justin Zelaya ensures that It isn't dangerous, but protective eyewear is still included with the laserbong to protect your eyes from its light.
«The laser isn't that dangerous—it's not going to cut off your finger or anything. It'll just sting a little if you touch it,» he explains. Not very reassuring, though.
The laser is controlled by a small computer whose glass frame was custom-made in California and is studded with color-changing LEDs. The whole system is controlled via an app.
It took five people to work on building the laserbong. Among them were people from diverse backgrounds, such as a «Bitcoin developer and mad scientists.» The company’s founder describes himself as a mad scientist, which explains the little background tune we all recognized as being from the opening credits of Rick and Morty.
The video has gone viral in the cannabis community and is the envy of many. Even Cypress Hill and Medmen have praised this invention. At the same time, you have to admit it looks classy—it’s a far cry from the makeshift plastic bottle we used to slip under the roof of the schoolyard with our bikes back in high school, or from a Chicken Banger.
