United States: consumers prefer ingested cannabis, pills or concentrates to smoking
The old-school joint or bong method of consuming cannabis is losing more and more popularity in the United States, to the benefit of more «sophisticated» forms such as the edibles, and even concentrates extracted from the plant. These are the findings of the market analysis company BDS Analytics in its latest report, aimed at cannabis entrepreneurs.
A new era for cannabis
With new «healthy» fashions of all kinds and innovation in the legal cannabis industry, new ways of consuming cannabis are spreading at breakneck speed, particularly in places that have legalized adult use of the plant. This large-scale change reflects the demand for stronger, healthier or more discreet products found in California, Colorado and Washington.
We're thus witnessing a veritable revolution in the market, as the figures from BDS Analytics show: traditional flower sales now account for just 44% of cannabis sales in Colorado, whereas this figure stood at 67% when the market opened in 2014. Meanwhile, concentrate sales have doubled to 31%. Much the same can be seen in Oregon, where flower sales have risen from 51 to 44% in just one year, and in California, where flower sales have fallen by 3% as a proportion of total cannabis sales in less than three months.
Simplicity that appeals
With the edibles, This is very appealing to new cannabis consumers, who can consume without damaging their respiratory tract or trailing the smell of weed behind them. For the same reasons, products such as THC cartridges, which can be consumed with an e-cigarette or in a car, are on the rise. vape. These stylish, easy-to-use products offer a wide variety of flavors, capacities and power.
But where the real novelty lies is with the dabs, This method of consuming cannabis concentrates has become enormously popular with the legal market. The distinguishing feature of these products is their THC content, which varies from 50-70%, but certain distillation methods now produce near-pure concentrates with 99% THC, in its acid form (THCa).
While power may be a desirable aspect, dabs also enable you to dose your consumption more precisely, with a healthier method using vaporization instead of combustion, excluding carbon monoxide and other toxic elements inhaled when smoking.
