Quick Hit July 2022: what we've missed in recent weeks
Regular Newsweed users will have noticed that we've been on hiatus for the past 2 weeks. Spoiler: the same thing will happen in August. But since the news doesn't wait for us, here's a recap of what's been happening in the meantime on Planet Cannabis.
France
The Union of CBD Professionals (UPCBD) is positioned against the marketing of HHC, because «it is impossible to certify that consumption is safe for users, especially as the composition and traceability of products containing them appear unverifiable».
Europe
The first-ever meeting of European countries in the process of legalizing cannabis was held in Luxembourg, at the initiative of the Grand Duchy. Germany, Luxembourg, Malta and the Netherlands discussed legalization and regulation at this historic joint meeting. Bruno Lemaire, François Braun and Gérald Darmanin were not invited. Surprising, isn't it?
Shortly after this meeting, the mayor of Brussels and vice-president of the Belgian PS said to himself in favor of legalizing cannabis: «Criminalizing it puts some of our young people in the hands of criminal networks».
Meanwhile, UK Home Secretary Priti Patel wants to confiscate the passports and driving licenses of drug users as part of a new government crackdown. She said the move shows the government is «cracking down on drug use», which is «a blight on society». Gérald, is that you?
In Ireland, a challenge before the High Court could enable the island to lift its blanket ban on CBD products by October.
Big losses and disillusionment for the investors in JuicyFields, which promised a regular remuneration in exchange for financial participation in the cultivation of CBD hemp or medical cannabis. To the best of our understanding, After the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority banned anyone in Germany from investing in the platform at the beginning of June, due to the company's failure to produce the necessary supporting documentation, and an internal strike was announced, it seems that the founders took off with the cash and disappeared into thin air, leaving the entire crowdgrowers.
United States
The U.S. Congress looks set to send the first-ever cannabis bill to Joe Biden's desk. The House of Representatives and Senate have collaborated on a cannabis research bill that lawmakers are expected to vote on this week. It's a combination of research bills that have already passed both chambers.
The daughter-in-law of the President of the United States has been seen leaving a cannabis dispensary in Malibu, California, escorted by a Secret Service agent. The headline of the article could have been «Woman buys legal product» but that was less salesy.
Rest of the world
UN experts called to end the «war on drugs» and promote policies based on human rights.
Philippine Senator Robinhood Padilla wants to legalize medical cannabis as an «alternative means of medical treatment» in a country more than hostile to the plant. Under the bill, cannabis, which refers to products such as capsules and oil, not raw cannabis, could be used for «incapacitating medical conditions» of «qualified patients».
For its part, Indonesia has so far refused visit calls to legalize medical cannabis. Nevertheless, «the Constitutional Court has merely transferred responsibility to the government by asking it to carry out immediate investigations».
Cookies to open a store in Thailand next August and will not only be selling clothes following the quasi-legalization of cannabis in the country.

Hemp essential oil (EO) could be used natural pesticide« due to its environmentally-friendly cultivation, the many end products that can be obtained beyond HE (fiber, food, etc.), its interesting mechanisms of action, and the renewed interest and recent regulations enabling and facilitating its large-scale cultivation.»
An interesting study looked the levels of endocannabinoids circulating in our bodies in the light of alcohol consumption. It would appear that «alcohol reduces AEA (anandamide) levels as exposure increases». Perhaps this is why cannabis is sometimes used in alcohol addiction to restore natural endocannabinoid levels?
