Oreo producer wants to make CBD cookies
Mondelez, the cookie producer Oreo, has given notice of its intention to produce edibles. Did you say spaces-Oreo? Well, not quite, since it will be a new brand of cookies. The company wants to preserve family-friendly Oreo products.
This would mean new product models from snacking whose special feature is that they are infused with CBD. With this announcement, Mondelez joins the long list of major FMCG companies that have declared they are observing the market or will soon be launching CBD.
The CBD rush
After large alcohol groups such as Constellation Brands (Corona), AB Inbev (Budweiser), Molson Coors and Heineken as well as tobacco manufacturers such as Altria which produces Marlboros, it's now the turn of the cookie and chocolate snacking mainstream to go green. This molecule, still little-known last year, is exploding this year in the United States. Experts have already declared CBD to be one of the world's leading major consumer trends in 2019. It can be found in coffees, sodas, beers, cosmetics, and even burgers. Restaurants have also made CBD cuisine their business concept.
But some, like Coca Cola, Pernod Ricard or Diaego, the producer of Guinness, are keeping their distance for the time being because of the murky regulations surrounding the use of CBD in food in the United States. as in Europe. Mondelez also warned that the production of’edibles would take a long time, not least because of the uncertain status of CBD after the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill: «Yes we're getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within legal limits and do it the right way,» explains Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put.
The Food and Drug Administration must always issue regulatory recommendations on the subject. It has scheduled public hearings on the issue during the summer.
In any case, consumers hadn't waited for Mondelez's announcement to revisit Oreo cookies.
