Colorado to open its first cannabis delivery licenses

A first of its kind: the licenses for cannabis couriers are in the process of being approved in Colorado. The legislature has given prior approval for the creation of a «cannabis transporter» license attached to its cannabis regulatory agency.

Colorado already has 12 cannabis delivery companies, which are licensed to transport cannabis from cultivation locations to dispensary stalls. These companies are currently classified as «sellers», a broad category that includes other intermediary services in the organization of the cannabis market.

This new license will give carriers more rights, such as the ability to storing cannabis in the event of a heavy snowstorm and an inability to deliver. Today, delivery personnel must return to the site of origin if they are unable to deliver the cannabis within a certain time window.

The delivery driver's license will cost 7600$ for 3 years, and legal analysts estimate that 24 companies will apply for it.
