Oregon counts its canna-dollars
A study published by New Economy Consulting and Whitney Economics indicates that the cannabis industry is boosting Oregon's economy. Called the «Oregon Cannabis Jobs Report», the study uses data collected from dispensaries across the state.
The report highlights the creation of jobs, legal income and the repercussions of this new market. In this state of 3.8 million inhabitants, 2156 jobs have been created in just a few months. In October 2015 alone, the first month under the legal regime, sales already stood at $22 million. The state had made a gift of 3 months tax-free for retailers until 2016. For the month of January alone 3.5 million dollars were captured on sales by the 323 dispensaries of recreational cannabis. Experts predict that the cannabis market will account for 481 million $ in 2016.
«The market is bigger than we ever imagined».»
According to dispensaries and total sales, the combination of medical and recreational licenses is the road to fortune. What's more, while Oregon citizens used to be able to buy weed only, dispensaries have recently been authorized to sell weed products. derivatives such as space-foods, THC concentrates, and even creams for the face.
The federal ban on cannabis currently prevents businesses from taking out loans with banks, and forces dispensaries to sell only in cash. In addition to physical markets, the cannabis economy is also developing on the Internet. In addition to online purchases and cannabis delivery services, there's the whole online economy. underground created by the black market.
The competition in Colorado is beginning to make itself felt, so capital and investors in cannabis companies are sailing towards a new playing field that's still fairly open to occupy the top spots.
