How do I make a CBD tincture?
The CBD tinctures They offer an easy-to-dose and effective method of administration. They use either alcohol or vegetable oils to extract the active compounds from cannabis and can be stored for a relatively long time in a cool, dark place. They can be taken sublingually or mixed with food or a beverage.
Commonly used in the early 20th century, dyes are making a comeback today with the rise of therapeutic uses of cannabis. Since they're low in calories, they can be used as a substitute for other edibles more indulgent options like CBD chocolate or brownies.
And CBD tinctures can be easily made at home using the recipes below.
Alcohol-based CBD tincture
A first CBD Tincture Recipe uses alcohol for extraction, and therefore cannabis flowers. Whether you’re in Switzerland, Belgium, or Canada (anywhere except France, in fact), and you can legally do the following with flowers containing -0.2% or -1% of THC, depending on local laws, or we’ll suggest another legal method for France in the next paragraph.
There are several methods for alcohol-based extraction. Here are cMaster Wu's.
1/ First and foremost, be sure to decarboxylate your flowers. Then grind them finely.
2/ Mix your flowers in a Mason jar or similar container with undenatured alcohol at 90°C or the strongest alcohol you can find
3/ Heat the jar in a pot filled with water at 75°C for 20 minutes.
4/ Strain the mixture and let it rest
To determine the CBD concentration of your extract, you first need to know the CBD content of the flowers. Since this is rarely the case—and as Master Wu advises—start with 1 mL on the first day, taken sublingually. If the effects are strong enough, you’re good to go. Otherwise, increase the dose to 2 mL the next day, and so on until you’ve found your ideal dosage.
CBD Tincture Made with Vegetable Oil
The vegetable oil-based CBD tincture uses CBD crystals, which—unlike CBD cannabis flowers—are available in stores in France.
You can use hemp, olive, or coconut oil for this extraction.
To achieve a concentration of 10%, take 10 mL of oil and add 1,000 mg of CBD crystals. You may need to warm the container slightly to dissolve the CBD crystals.
CBD tinctures made with vegetable oil lack the other cannabinoids, terpenes, or flavonoids that enhance the effects of CBD (a phenomenon known as the’entourage effect) but will be a good way to take them for children or for people who don't like the taste or effects of whole-plant extracts.
