Pets broken up in Canada
The vet Canadian Dan Cartwright has noticed a sharp rise in the number of pets arriving at his practice high on drugs.
In his view, the democratization of cannabis in his country has inevitably led to an increase in accidental weed ingestions by pets. On CBC radio, he explains the various symptoms: «The dog has difficulty standing, seems lethargic, has slowed reflexes and becomes more sensitive to touch, sound and light. The dog will be hungry for 12 to 24 hours.»
He also adds that just like humans, Pets on cannabis have glassy eyes and need to hydrate a lot. They sometimes find it hard to contain themselves. They can become intoxicated by eating a stray weed head or space food that looked appetizing. According to the doctor, passive smoking can also be responsible for this intoxication.
The concentration of the weed ingested and the size of the animal will influence the duration of the effect and the onset of symptoms. The vet assures us that weed intoxication is rarely fatal and that the effects disappear over the long term. However, if symptoms persist, the cannabinoids will have to be evacuated intravenously to ensure a return to normal. In Colorado, two small dogs deceased after ingesting cannabis concentrates.
The doctor points out that you have to hide your stash or your spaces-food so that animals, like children, can't have access to psychoactive products.
