France: Gour Medical to launch a range of cannabis-based animal supplements
Gour Medical, specialized in veterinary medicines and senior pets, announced launch in 2018 a range of pet food supplements based on cannabidiol (CBD).
500 million pets are treated by veterinarians worldwide. Gour Medical relies both on a stable, growing market and their expertise in this field, and on advances in therapeutic cannabis applications to create the market for CBD treatment for animals in Europe.
The Swiss company recently transferred its headquarters to France and plans to launch R&D there, coupled with another team in Israel. Israel is currently the world's undisputed leader in medical cannabis research and makes it easier to set up clinical studies, while France was chosen for its know-how and skills in global research.
Gour Medical's studies will focus on calibrating the dosages and modes of administration of dietary supplements likely to interact with various pathologies: chronic pain, osteoarthritis, end-of-life, cancer, dermatological allergies, stress, anxiety... Their products will of course comply with French legal limits for THC (-0.2%), which in any case causes bad reactions in animals.
Gour Medical will source its raw materials (CBD and terpenes) from producers in industrial hemp and hopes to rapidly transfer technology from Israel to their European laboratory.
Their ambition is to become the Canopy Growth of the veterinary market, with high-quality food supplements adapted to animals and recommended by veterinarians.
Serge Goldner, Chairman of Gour Medical, tells us that he is currently raising initial funds from private investors. A second, more open, round will take place shortly.
Gour Medical is listed in France on the Euronext market. The first CBD products are expected to arrive in late 2018.
