Pet raccoon consumes too much cannabis and ends up in the fire department
Can't wait to celebrate 420? Firefighters in Wayne Township, Indiana, got a funny surprise last week.
When the doorbell rang at 2 a.m., they were greeted by a woman holding a lethargic raccoon in her arms. Panicked, the woman explained that it was a pet raccoon that had gotten its hands on «someone else’s marijuana» and was so stone that she was afraid he might overdose.
Fortunately, animals (like humans) would have to consume impossible amounts of cannabis before the cannabis does not have a lethal effect, leaving the firefighters and the raccoon's owner with no options other than to wait for it to come back down.
«We generally like to help, especially when it comes to animals. We have a lot of animal lovers in the fire department,» said Michael Pruitt, a spokesperson for the fire station, at Washington Post. «But in that case, they just recommended [that the raccoon get some sleep].».
The firefighters, however, were considerate enough not to reveal the identity of the raccoon's owner, the since cannabis is illegal in Indiana.
While it’s fairly rare to see a high raccoon, veterinarians in U.S. states where cannabis is legal have witnessed a increase in cases of poisoning Accidental cannabis exposure. The blame lies with inconsiderate owners who leave their gear lying around within reach of their pets.
