A New Year in Hollyweed
On the night of December 31, a number of inventive and courageous people tampered with the famous letters that line Los Angeles. The December 31st funnymen celebrate in their own way full legalization of cannabis in California turning Hollywood into Hollyweed. The prankster(s) have not been found.
A prank that pisses off the police
The letters have not been changed, just customized in a simple and fun way. First, the pranksters went through the security gates, then braved the infrared sensors located on the site. The pranksters tied black flags around part of the two letters «O». Then they created an «e» by stretching a white tarpaulin behind the two «o »s. It's worth noting that the black flags over the O's bear the hallmark of «peace and love». The word Hollyweed translates orally as «Holy Weed».
An explicit dedication to cannabis that enrages the police. Numerous jokes of this type had forced the security services to equip themselves extensively: infrared surveillance cameras linked 24 hours a day to the nearest police station, motion sensors, microphones and occasional helicopter patrols.

A 1976 revival
Back in 1976 , a student by the name of Danny Finegood had already pulled off this prank. He wanted to pay tribute to the reduced penalties for cannabis smokers at that time. He went on to repeat the joke several times in his life. Unfortunately, he can't be the author of this year's hoax, as he passed away in 2007.
Consumption and home production of cannabis are now authorized in California. However, legal trade in recreational cannabis will not begin until January 1, 2018.
