Marvel Universe legalizes cannabis
In the latest issue of the Daredevil comic book, Wilson Fisk, also known as The Kingpin (or Kingpin (in the original version) is trying to adjust to his new role as mayor of New York City. While Fisk is dining with the city’s elite, the topic of cannabis legalization comes up. And since Fisk is Fisk, he obviously isn’t talking about social justice or a liberal cause—he’s talking about business.
In the passage in question, Wilson Fisk explains:
I have some soil to grow things in. I have the the best people in the world to grow it. The biggest hurdle was making sure the rules for obtaining a sales license worked in my favor and not anyone else’s. But that’s gone well so far.
And while several of the guests support the legalization of cannabis, Wilson Fisk is also the butt of many jokes.
The Marvel Universe never hesitates to incorporate real-world legal developments into its storytelling. In fact, New York is expected to legalize cannabis next year, and has already decriminalized it, pending further action. Marvel has thus incorporated this development in a clever and intriguing way.
