Netflix releases «Cooked with Cannabis» on April 20... but doesn't announce it in France
A new show is coming to Netflix on April 20: Cooked with Cannabis. Conceived as a cooking competition, contestants will be challenged to prepare masterful dishes using ingredients infused with Cannabis.
The show will be hosted by singer Kelis alongside Leather Storrs, a chef from Portland, Oregon, known for cooking with marijuana.
This first season, consisting of six episodes, will follow the same format as most other cooking competitions. Three professional chefs will compete against each other by preparing a three-course meal to impress the judges. Each meal must follow a different theme, such as world cuisine or futuristic cuisine, but all dishes must include cannabis.
Each meal will then be judged by Kelis, Leather, and a guest judge. Some of the guest judges include Ricki Lake and actress Mary Lynn Rajskub. Once the winning chef is chosen, the lucky winner will receive 10,000$.
«Cooked with Cannabis is a show where weed is a seasoning rather than the main ingredient. It’s detailed, educational, sincere, and intelligent,» said explained Leather Storrs. «The candidates had personal and romantic relationships with the herb, and they understood its nuances—medically, chemically, spiritually, and as a psychoactive substance. Moreover, there was a genuine sense of community and camaraderie.»
As for Kelis, she said that the series «kind of just came to her,» but that the overall experience was more powerful than she could have imagined. «It touched my heart in a way I didn’t expect, because it’s so culturally significant,» she said. «In this country, there are so many things that have been systematically used to oppress groups of people, so it might seem like just a game and fun, but watch the show and you’ll see—you know what? It’s important. People’s lives have been affected in both truly positive and negative ways, and how can we take back control?»

Leather Storrs also congratulated everyone involved for taking the competition and the concept of cooking with cannabis seriously. « »Many chefs used the plant in a non-psychoactive way: as a flavoring, as a purée in fresh tortillas, or mixed into flour,« he said. »It’s a show for foodies, for stoners, and for people curious about both.”
And as the host of the Weediner, we couldn't have said it better 🙂
The series has not been announced on the Netflix France schedule. It will, however, be available on Netflix US and Netflix Canada.

In 2018, Netflix had already aired a cannabis-themed cooking competition, Cooking on High, which pitted chefs against each other in a competition judged by stoners and hosted by a YouTuber. The series received a mixed reception, qualified even called «the worst cooking show on Netflix» by a Washington Post reporter.
