The two most expensive cannabis strains in the world
Generally speaking, legal cannabis users tend to focus more on finding good deals at their dispensaries. Some, however, are more hedonistic and prefer the luxury of expensive and extravagant strains.
A gram of cannabis costs between 8 and 14$ at a dispensary. A «pricey» strain might cost as much as 20$. But that’s to overlook the fact that some people can afford to spend more—much more—on a single gram.
The legalization of recreational cannabis is still in its early stages in the United States. That may change soon. But for now, here are the two varieties of The Most Expensive Weed in the World.
Isla OG
This variety is known among «cannasseurs» (the aficionados (weed) as the most expensive strain in the world, at about 800$ per 28 grams, or 28,57$ per gram. Sold in a tin can, it is packaged in 3.5-gram portions to maintain its freshness and potency.
She became famous in an episode of 2Chainz’s show, *Most Expensive Shit*. He rolls an Isla OG spliff in a 24-karat gold leaf—just to be sure he doesn’t mess it up. But he also packs 28g into a massive bong before hitting it. Ouch.
OracleBud
If canned cannabis isn't really your thing, you can go in search of one of the most discreet strains on the planet. BC Seeds' Oracle Bud is apparently just a rebrand of a strain called AC/DC.
However, rumors suggest it has an astronomical THC level of 45%. The few people who have tried it say they paid 1000$ for a clone of the plant and 200$ for a seed.
Its flowering time (which might explain the price?) is 45 days. The Werc Shop has tested the plant, and it reportedly has a CBD:THC ratio of 20:1. So a THC level of 45% seems a bit odd. But as long as it sells!
Why is it so expensive?
There are several factors that can affect the price of a cannabis strain, but very often, marketing is the cause. Some strains Some are also hard to find, while others have an incredible backstory that justifies the price.
But more often than not, it’s just «packaging.» Strains grown under highly controlled conditions using organic methods are generally the most expensive. Add to that rare genetics and Cannabis Cup-level prices, and you’ll quickly reach 20$ per gram at a dispensary.
