Hemp to decarbonize construction: Club Confluence's must-attend event #21

May 22, 2025, the Club Confluence is organizing its 21st event, dedicated to a major issue in the ecological transition: decarbonizing the construction industry with hemp. This exciting event will bring together technological innovations, environmental challenges and new economic prospects, with an unprecedented focus on the different types of carbon credits generated by hemp-based materials.

Hemp, a super-material for low-carbon construction

While the building sector accounts for nearly 40 % of global CO₂ emissions, hemp as an alternative is attracting growing interest as its use becomes economically more attractive. Used in the form of hemp concrete, d’bio-sourced insulation, or biochar, Hemp's ability to store carbon over the long term is combined with its remarkable thermal and ecological performance.

Carbon credit and hemp: the industry's hidden assets

One of the highlights of Club Confluence #21 will be a presentation by experts from the’Augur Associates, a firm specializing in carbon credits from hemp. Their approach? Enhance the value of bio-sourced materials at high carbon sequestration capacity by certifying them on voluntary carbon markets.

Through products such as biochar, hemp concrete and insulating materials, Augur supports the generation of carbon credits by high permanence and integrity, unlike other more controversial models. These credits not only make it possible to financing the hemp industry, but also to respond to european regulatory requirements (CSRD, green taxonomy) in terms of carbon neutrality.
